Executive Director
James Clement J.D., LL.M. is an attorney and serial entrepreneur. His most recent position was C.O.O. of the Maximum Life Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to accelerate research into anti-aging and life- extension. Mr. Clement has successfully launched and operated a number of startup companies and held consulting and management positions in non-profit, government, and corporate organizations. He began his career in international business and real estate law, and worked for several years at Arthur Young & Company in New York City. Mr. Clement has been awarded degrees from Truman State University, the University of California Hastings College of the Law, and the New York University School of Law.

Nick Bostrom Ph.D. is a philosopher at Oxford University, and the Director of the Oxford Future of Humanity Institute. He co-founded the World Transhumanist Association in 1998 and is a frequent spokesperson and commentator in the media. He has been a consultant for the Central Intelligence Agency (Washington, DC), and for the European Commission and the European Group on Ethics (Brussels). Dr. Bostrom’s research interests include the philosophy of science, probability theory, and the ethical and strategic implications of anticipated technologies. He has a background in cosmology, computational neuroscience, mathematical logic, philosophy, and artificial intelligence, and is the author of the book Anthropic Bias: Observation Selection Effects in Science and Philosophy (Routledge, New York, 2002).

![]() James Hughes Ph.D.James Hughes is a bioethicist and sociologist teaching and working at Trinity College in Hartford Connecticut. He serves as the Executive Director of the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies and produces the IEET's syndicated weekly radio program and podcast Changesurfer Radio. He is the author of Citizen Cyborg: Why Democratic Societies Must Respond to the Redesigned Human of the Future. He is a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science, and a member of the American Society of Bioethics and Humanities and the Working Group on Ethics and Technology at Yale University. Dr. Hughes speaks on medical ethics, health care policy and future studies worldwide, and appears often radio and television. |
PJ ManneyPJ Manney graduated from Wesleyan University double majoring in Film and American Studies. She has worked for over 20 years in the communications field; first, in public relations for motion pictures at Walt Disney/Touchstone Pictures, then in movie story development for independent film production companies and writing for critically acclaimed TV shows like Hercules – The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess. She has also co-founded Uncharted Entertainment and written and/or created many pilot scripts for television networks, including CBS, Fox, UPN, Discovery, ABC Family and Comedy Central. Patricia lives with her husband and two children in California. She is presently writing a techno-thriller/H+ novel and contributing an essay on empathy and technology for the WTA’s book, BEING & TRANSHUMANISM: A Modern Primer for Tomorrow’s Humanity. Ben GoertzelBen Goertzel (goertzel.org) is founder and CEO of two computer science firms Novamente LLC (novamente.net) and Biomind LLC (biomind.com), and of the non-profit AGIRI (Artificial General Intelligence Research Institute). He has served as a university faculty in several departments of mathematics, computer science and cognitive science, in the US, Australia and New Zealand. He is author of two books focused on the future of technology and society Creating Internet Intelligence (Plenum, 2001) and The Path to Posthumanity (Academica, 2006). He serves as Director of Research for the Singularity Institute for AI. |

He is Director of the non-profit Center for Responsible Nanotechnology, an organization working to raise awareness of the issues presented by advanced nanotechnology. He also serves as an advisor to the Methuselah Foundation. Prior to the Singularity Institute, he worked with the Acceleration Studies Foundation, co-organizing the first Accelerating Change Conference in 2003; and Foresight Nanotech Institute, the premier public interest nonprofit on nanotechnology.

![]() Jani MoliisJani Moliis serves as the WTA Treasurer. He has been an active transhumanist since 2003, when he participated in the founding of the Finnish Transhumanist Association, although he has been a transhumanist practically all his life (without knowing the term for it). He has served as the Treasurer of the FTA and is currently its chairman, as well as a Board member of the World Transhumanist Association. Jani was appointed as the Treasurer of the WTA in 2005, a position he continues to hold. Outside of transhumanist activities, Jani has worked as a management consultant first at McKinsey & Company and most recently at Accenture. He is married and his first-born baby girl was born in late 2007. Jani's hobbies include traveling and board games.
