> David Zaig
An experimental artist who works in many media, his current focus is the mind and brain and it's relationship to art.
David Zaig, born in Jerusalem, Israel (US citizen). Graduate of the Slade School of Fine Arts, University of London. Taught and exhibited in London, England, and the US. My interest in the idea of the Cyborg began years before I became aware of the Transhumanist organization. But my interest gathered momentum at the time when medicine began to replace body parts and organs with artificial ones. For me this was evolution in the making. As an artist, I am also interested in how the brain works; I question our notion of aesthetic judgment, beauty, love, and choice making. I am as critical about my work as I am about the art world--I don't think I have yet discovered what the true place of art is in our (future) lives.
In "utopia" the Bride is transformed into an all-encompassing mechanical butterfly--it symbolizes the creative force that permeates the land, and the birth and rebirth of creativity in different forms.
