Position on Human Germline Genetic Modification
Sunday, December 26, 2004Some bioconservative organizations have called for an international treaty banning inheritable genetic modifications and cloning, and declaring them “crimes against humanity.” In response to this emerging debate, the Genetics and Public Policy Center recently hosted a meeting representing many different bioethicists and activist groups, including the Executive Director of the World Transhumanist Association, to create materials for law makers outlining the policy options and issues in regulating human heritable genetic modification. This statement is a contribution to this discussion.
