Intensive Seminar on Transhumanism

REGISTRATION
CLOSES JUNE 10
On
June 26, 2003, before the beginning of the Transvision conference,
the World Transhumanist
Association will hold a one day seminar on transhumanist thought
for roughly fifteen students.
Participants
will be given a set of readings in early June to prepare for the seminar.
The seminar
will begin at 8am and end around 5pm.
Registration
for the seminar will close after June 1, 2003.

Nick
Bostrom Ph.D.
Philosophy, Oxford University, UK
Dr. Bostrom is a philosopher at Oxford University. He founded the
WTA in 1998 (with David Pearce) and is a frequent spokesperson and
commentator in the media. Bostrom’s research interests are in philosophy
of science, probability theory, and the ethical and strategic implications
of anticipated technologies (including AI, nanotech, genetics, etc.). He
has a background in cosmology, computational neuroscience, mathematical
logic, philosophy, artificial intelligence, and stand-up comedy, and is
the author of the book Anthropic Bias: Observation Selection Effects in
Science and Philosophy (Routledge, New York, 2002).

Natasha
Vita-More
President, Extropy Institute
Founder, Transhumanist Arts and Culture
Ms. Vita-More, president of Extropy Institute, was one
of the first articulators of the transhumanist vision and has been on
forefront of translating transhumanism into arts and culture. As an
international spokesperson for futurist ideas Ms. Vita-More is a media
magnet, having been featured in numerous international magazines and
televised programs. She is the author of the Transhumanist
Arts Statement and founder of Transhumanist Arts & Culture.
Her pioneering future body design "Primo [3M+] Posthuman"
visually coalesces the technical advances and the philosophical issues of
the future human which has become an ideological statement. In 2002 Ms.
Vita-More was elected President of the Extropy Institute, a leading
exponent of transhumanist ideas.

Hughes Ph.D.
Public Policy, Trinity College, Connecticut
Dr. Hughes is a bioethicist and sociologist teaching and working at
Trinity College in Hartford Connecticut. Under the nom de air of "Dr.
J." he produces Changesurfer
Radio, a weekly syndicated "left futurist/democratic
transhumanist" talk show.

Robin
Hanson Ph.D.
Economics, George Mason Univ., Virginia
Dr. Hanson teaches
economics at George Mason University. He is the former editor-in-chief of
the Journal of Evolution and Technology and has written on a wide
variety of transhumanist topics.
